[CONSPIRACY THEORIES]
The First Moon Landing Was Faked
The Plot
Neil Armstrong didn't take a giant leap for mankind in 1969, say conspiracy theorists. They believe that the landing was just an orchestrated hoax.
The Evidence
Bill Kaysing, author of "We Never Went To The Moon", claims the moon landing was faked to cover up America's failure in the space race against the Soviet Union. He believes that the following evidence proves his theory.
1. NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) says the Apollo astronauts took no lighting equipment. The sun was therefore the only light source, says Kaysing. But in the famous 'first man on the moon' photos, there are shadows cast in different directions - something only achievable with special effects.
2. In the photos, there are no stars, just blackness. But according to Kaysing, the stars would appear extremely bright as the moon has no atmosphere.
3. There was no crater or indentation left on the moon's surface when the weighty lunar module landed. NASA clams that this is because the moon has only one-sixteenth of Earth's gravity and that the module landed gently. But in that case, how did Buzz Aldrin make his famous footprint? Kaysing says that means he would have had to weigh at least 35 stones to make his mark.
4. As there is no atmosphere on the moon, there is no wind. So how can the American flag be waving in the photo?
How did they fake it?
According to Kaysing:
1. An underground cavern was excavated in the Nevada desert to create a 'moon set'.
2. The empty Saturn V rocket lifted off in front of the press - then ditched into the sea.
3. Hidden underground in the cavern, the astronauts enjoyed drugs, sex, gambling and glamour girls before acting out their landing in a film studio.
4. They were smuggled into a dummy space capsule and dropped from a cargo plane into the sea.
5. They were 'quarantined' in order to study data and practice responding to questions.
6. The astronauts were all given high-powered jobs with huge salaries as a bribe to keep quiet about the whole thing.
What NASA had to say
A NASA spokesman joked that it was flattering but 'even NASA couldn't fake this one'.
